Volunteer Massage Therapist required for Camp Goodtime

Start Date: 28th March 2015

Each year since 1990, the Paediatric HIV Service at the Sydney Children’s Hospital has been facilitating Camp Goodtime. Camp Goodtime is free of charge to all families attending. The camp receives no government funding is received and we rely solely on fundraising events and donations. The aims of Camp Goodtime are to: • Facilitate communication between and within families living with HIV • Reduce the isolation experienced by these families • Provide a recreational and therapeutic environment where children and parents can share experiences with others in similar circumstances. • Provide a venue where information about the medical, social and other aspects of HIV can be shared and where new ways of coping with the virus can be learned. The Camp is held over 3 nights, with up to 150 people on site, including children, parents/carers and volunteers. The parents attending camp participate in a variety of workshops, peer support and therapeutic activities. The camp endeavours to reduce the social isolation experienced by families living with HIV and enable families to further develop peer support networks established at camp during the rest of the year. The camp aims to improve participants understanding of both physical and emotional HIV management, which will benefit the families on a long terms basis. If you are interested in donating your time to provide massages to the parents attending camp. Please contact me on 02 9382 1851.
